The Grotto Of Our Lady of Lourdes is located on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, located in Notre Dame, Indiana. The grotto was built in 1896 and is a one-seventh scale model of the cave near Lourdes, France where the Virgin Mary appeared to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous. In the upper right hand corner of the photograph you can see a statue of the Virgin Mary as she may have been seen by Bernadette who is depicted by a statue in the lower left portion of the photograph. Prior to final examinations the grotto is a place of solitude and prayer for many a student.
